One of the most innovative forms of restorative therapy involving dogs in America today is the series of prison puppy raiser programs cropping up in correctional facilities across the nation. The HOPE Program, which stands for Hounds of Prison Education, was launched in March 2005 – a joint project of the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance (CPAA) and the State Correctional Institute at Camp Hill. Just about everyone loves to dress up, don a costume and “come as you aren’t,” even for a few hours. At PawsAbilities the pups get to join in the fun at the Great PawsAbilities Parade and Costume Contest. Disc dog competitions began sprouting up across the country in the early 1970’s, as Frisbee sports in general began to pick up momentum with college students and other outdoors lovers.
